Equine Performance

Our new equine CBD product line is formulated using nanoencapsulation, an innovative technology in the cannabinoid delivery method that allows for immediate absorption.

Why CBD for horses?

The discovery that hemp-derived CBD is significantly beneficial to horse health is creating considerable interest in the equine community. From treating common health conditions, preventing them from developing or worsening, improving performance, speeding recovery time for horses in the competitive circuit, and creating an overall sense of calm and contentment, CBD is on the forefront of advancements in equine wellness.

Why Nano For horses?

When using CBD therapeutically, dosage is always based on an animal’s weight. Because horses are such a large breed, our high-potency, nanoencapsulated CBD is far more efficient than other CBD products — so horse owners can use less product to achieve maximum results.

Nanoencapsulated CBD is made instantly bioavailable in a horse’s body, yielding rapid results. Its enhanced sublingual delivery system allows CBD to be absorbed into a horse’s bloodstream, where it binds to cell receptors immediately.

Supporting Equine Health

Arthritis

Arthritis

A common health condition in horses, arthritis is caused by chronic inflammation and leads to permanent degradation of cartilage surrounding a horse’s joints. Horses with arthritis can experience extreme pain, ultimately affecting their quality of life. While arthritis cannot be entirely reversed, CBD can help prevent the condition from worsening while alleviating current pain.

Pain

Pain

Traditional pain relief for horses involves using conventional medications, which are accompanied by various adverse reactions. But horse owners now have the natural option of CBD for alleviation of distress and pain. Due to its incredible anti-inflammatory properties, experts are considering CBD as part of a new drug class to treat chronic pain in both humans and animals. Its pain-relieving properties assist in both general and acute pain — with virtually zero side effects, unlike those associated with prescription pain medications.

Laminitis

Laminitis

Each day, hundreds of horses are diagnosed with laminitis, an inflammation of tissues within the hoof. This disease causes severe pain, negatively affecting a horse’s ability to perform as well as their overall quality of life. CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties may provide both respite and healing.

Gastric Ulcers

Gastric Ulcers

Often caused by stress, horses are frequently diagnosed with gastric ulcers. Up to 90 percent of adult horses are diagnosed with gastric ulcer disease at some point in their life, a condition which causes erosions in the stomach lining. Ulcers can be incredibly painful, affecting a horse's appetite and overall well-being. By implementing CBD, discomfort is relieved and a horse’s natural healing process is supported.

Immune Function

Immune Function

CBD contains rich, omega-3 fatty acids. Studies show that these fatty acids help absorb vitamins, therefore supporting overall immune function. By implementing CBD oil into a horse’s diet, all physiological systems are strengthened, supporting the ability to fight disease and prevent illness.

Cardiovascular Health

Cardiovascular Health

For cardiovascular health, CBD reduces harm to blood vessels, protecting against damage caused by an irregular heart rate. Whether related to poor health, stress or anxiety, CBD can help decrease elevated heart rates and blood pressure in horses.

Colic

Colic

Colic, a condition affecting the gastrointestinal tract, is known to cause horses grievous abdominal pain. In cases of colic, a CBD supplement provides pain relief while working to reduce the inflammation in a horse’s GI tract.

Desmitis

Desmitis

Swelling and pain in a horse's ligaments, typically in the legs and coffin joints, are prevailing symptoms of desmitis. This commonly-diagnosed disease, which is based in inflammation, can benefit from CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties.

Joint Health

Joint Health

Added stress on a horse’s joints, either due to trauma or chronic wearing, will ultimately lead to the development of arthritis. If your horse is aging or has experienced physical trauma, consider implementing a CBD product into their diet before arthritis arises. CBD not only supports long-term joint health, but can also improve a horses’ current condition.

Allergies And Skin Conditions

Allergies And Skin Conditions

In the reduction and control of allergies, CBD is highly effective for horses. Often, allergic symptoms appear in the form of skin conditions, resulting in issues such as hives and pruritus (severe, intense itching). These symptoms can be managed, reduced and even prevented by implementing CBD.

Inflamation

Inflamation

At the root of nearly every disease, from cancer to allergies, inflammation is present. Therefore, reducing inflammation is paramount not only in providing relief of current health issues, but also to prevent diseases from developing in the future. A powerful natural anti-inflammatory, CBD has been proven to reduce current inflammation and prevent it from spreading or developing in the future.

Digestive Health

Digestive Health

In horses, CBD helps to alleviate digestive bloating, nausea, indigestion, lack of appetite, and heartburn. With a majority of illnesses originating from inadequate digestive function and imbalance in the stomach, the improvement of digestion with CBD can assist in multi-faceted equine health.

Anxiety

Anxiety

Horses experience anxiety just as humans do, particularly when traveling, competing or training. Being herd animals, horses also commonly experience separation anxiety if left alone for periods of time. Clinical trials have proven CBD’s ability to manage and prevent situational anxiety of all types. CBD can be used to combat current anxiousness, as well to prevent the onset of anxiety.

Dosage & Important Notes

Determining the ideal dosage and schedule for administering CBD to a horse can make a big difference in effectiveness and help to assure that your horse receives the greatest possible benefit.

Dosages that are too low will not provide maximum benefits, and dosages that are too high might come with unwanted effects such as lethargy, and result in overspending on equine CBD products.

The dosage advice on this page may differ greatly from what you have read elsewhere. This is because every product is different and the dosage depends on concentrations of CBD and other ingredients.

Our nano products are made using purified CBD isolate rather than a full-spectrum extract. The reason for this is that full-spectrum products contain scores of active ingredients, including other cannabinoids and also terpenes (essential oils), some of which may cause unwanted reactions in your horse. Using only CBD isolate greatly reduces the risk of an adverse reaction.

Because our products are made with CBD isolate, there will be a particular dosage at which a horse receives the most benefit. Below this dosage, your horse might not be getting the maximum benefits. Above the ideal dosage, the efficacy might actually decrease, and unwanted effects may result.

Fortunately, determining the ideal dosage for your horse is not difficult if you follow the advice in this guide.

Determining the ideal CBD dosage of equine CBD

Because every horse is different, it’s important to determine the ideal dosage of CBD for your horse in particular. This will involve a little experimentation when treating for specific ailments and may take a trial period in order to get it right. In a nutshell, the idea is to start low and work your way up until you are achieving the desired results.

The three steps to determining the ideal CBD dosage for your horse are:

Start with the lowest possible dosage.Observe the horses’ condition and behavior.Slowly increase the dosage until you achieve the desired results.

Stick to this schedule for the first few days. Once you feel comfortable that the product is well-tolerated by your horse, then you can begin increasing the dose. However, If you perceive a benefit at the initial daily dose, there is no need to increase the dosage.

If you’re giving your horse CBD to promote good health, then the once-a-day recommended dosage should be fine. However, if the animal has a medical condition such as chronic pain or seizures, higher and more frequent doses may be required in order to achieve maximum benefits. In this case, it’s best to break up the dosage with twice-daily servings.

How long does CBD take to take effect?

The benefits of CBD can sometimes be seen in the first few days of treatment, and in some cases — such as with anxiety — they can even be seen within the first hour. However, for certain applications, it can take up to two weeks to see results, as your animal’s body adapts. Be patient.

Unwanted Effects

Unwanted side effects are fairly rare and CBD supplements are generally well-tolerated by horses. Some unwanted effects may include lethargy, drowsiness, and soft stool. If any of these arise, or you notice any other unwanted effects with the initial low dosage, there is no need to be overly concerned. Either reduce the dosage further or stop altogether. Stopping treatment with CBD will not result in withdrawal symptoms.

In some cases, initial signs of lethargy will subside within three or four days. If the animal has a medical condition but is experiencing lethargy, you might want to wait a few days before you stop treatment to see if lethargy subsides as your animal’s system becomes accustomed to CBD.

If no unwanted effects are observed, the dosage can be increased.

Extraction

Creating Brighter Days uses CBD extracted from hemp using a solvent-free extraction method (C02). This assures the highest possible potency and eliminates the risk of solvent residues.

Drug Testing

CBD (cannabidiol) is one of a family of compounds found in cannabis known as cannabinoids. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is a cannabinoid responsible for the intoxicating effects of marijuana. Horses participating in equestrian sports may be required to undergo drug testing to test for THC and other banned drugs. Creating Brighter Days equine CBD products are THC-free and will not produce a positive test for THC.

Bioavailability

The efficacy of a product depends on its bioavailability — the amount of the product that enters the bloodstream. Creating Brighter Days equine CBD products are made using a nano-encapsulation method, which greatly increases the bioavailability of the product. This is especially important in large animals, where higher doses are required.

Safety Info

Creating Brighter Days equine CBD products are formulated specifically for horses only. They are not intended for human consumption.
